A few weeks ago we celebrated the launch of our mega mural, 'Gorse Hill Tapestry: Fabric of the Community' at Trafford House.

Last autumn, Bruntwood launched a competition to find an artist who could design a mural to commemorate the centenary of votes for women. The area has a deep connection with the suffragettes and in particular Sylvia Pankhurst, one of the most prominent leaders in the suffragette movement in the UK. Sylvia was born just metres from Trafford House and we thought it would be an apt tribute to explore a celebration of Sylvia as a theme.

After a gruelling judging process, Venessa Scott's design was chosen to adorn the east-facing end of Trafford House on Chester Road.

At the launch of the mural, Venessa was joined by customers from the building, along with her family and also friends from Trafford Council, The Pankhurst Trust and local community group, Gorgeous Gorse Hill.

Venessa took centre stage with Kate Vokes, our Director of Social Impact, and the ladies discussed how the competition came about, the inspiration behind the design and how the mega mural was delivered.

Guests enjoyed canapés and drinks whilst listing to live music from Bruntwood's resident musician, Liam Coyne.
