Reading is a great way to escape from the 'real' world and dive into fantasy beyond our wildest imaginations.

Heather Gray, our Business Development Manager and self-confessed book worm, shares her Top 5 Escapism books that can be found in our Blackfriars House library:

    1) Frenchman's Creek by Daphne Du Maurier.

A brave and fearless heroine meets her match in a dashing French pirate as his ship and crew terrorises the Cornish Coast. Swashbuckling adventure and a gorgeous romance story, this is pure, indulgent escapism. I loved it.

    2) Queenie - Candice Carty Williams.

Gorgeously written and completely engaging, Queenie explores what it is to a modern woman, and the struggle to conform to societal expectations.

    3) Jack Reacher, One Shot - Lee Child.

Sometimes, in a world of chaos we just need to know the good guy will win, and the bad guy will get what he deserves.

    4) Jurassic Park - Michael Crichton.

Blows the film out of the water. Brilliantly paced, exciting and will rekindle your childhood fascination with Dinosaurs, with a really interesting commentary on the balance between scientific development where "anything is possible", and humanity's thirst for money, power and success.

    5) Read to the kids - "A Bear Called Paddington" by Michael Bond.

A lovely one to read before bedtime, and you'll likely enjoy it as much as the kids. Paddington always gets into trouble, but his charm and sweet nature always ensures he comes good in the end.
