Manchester’s collection of giant inflatable monsters will be back this Halloween, invading rooftops across the city centre for the third year running and this year Bruntwood Works’ 111 Piccadilly will be joining the trail!

Created by artists Filthy Luker and Pedro Estrellas from Designs in Air, the monsters will be on display at seven locations across the city from 26 October to 1 November 2020.

Organised by Manchester’s Business Improvement District (Manchester BID), the monsters will be appearing at 111 Piccadilly, Spinningfields, Moda Angel Gardens, Manchester Arndale, The Printworks, Selfridges and Great Northern Warehouse.

To help bring 111 Piccadilly’s monster, Chomper, to life Bruntwood Works has commissioned a spooky-themed light art display. The art will be shown on a 200ft lighting installation, powered by sustainable photovoltaic energy, which will illuminate three sides of the building and will be visible across the city centre. The solar panels will also generate power for the ground floor of the building. The installation has been created in partnership with creative lighting consultancy Artin Light.

The lighting scheme is part of a major refurbishment project at Bruntwood Works’ 111 Piccadilly building to transform it into Manchester’s smartest workspace, part of its £50m Pioneer project. Find out more about the reimagined building, set to launch at the end of 2020, here.

Visitors to the city centre who share their photos and videos of the monsters on Instagram and Twitter with the hashtag #MCRMonsters will be in with a chance of winning a shopping weekend in Manchester!

The city is already awash with hundreds of pumpkin lanterns on Market Street, St Ann’s Square, St Ann’s Street, Spinningfields and First Street as the city centre prepares to celebrate Halloween.

Jane Sharrocks, Manchester BID Chair and General Manager of Selfridges Exchange Square said: “Manchester BID is incredibly excited to bring this event back in what will be the first major calendar date we've been able to celebrate in the city since the start of the pandemic. This is an incredibly challenging time and while we’ve had to make changes to this year’s overall event programme, we’re confident that the return of the Manchester monsters will be a fantastic and safe way to surprise and delight visitors and celebrate Halloween across the city centre.”

Andrew Cooke, Director of Strategy at Bruntwood Works commented: “We’re looking forward to Chomper’s arrival this month. This will be the first time we've been able to showcase our whole lighting installation and start to unveil 111 Piccadilly’s Pioneer refurbishment, ahead of the official launch later in the year. It’s great to have the monsters returning to Manchchester after such a turbulent few months in the city. They’re the highlight of Manchester's Halloween celebrations and bring a lot of excitement to residents and visitors alike’.
